If this is an emergency -
If you believe your child is suffering from depression, the first thing you should do is ask yourself the question: is there any reason to think this is an emergency? Is your child in imminent danger of hurting him- or herself or another person? If so, you may need to consider immediate hospitalization. At the very least, you should call your child's pediatrician (or therapist if he or she already has one).

If the pediatrician believes there may be depression or a similar illness, he or she might recommend further consultation with a mental health professional, or he or she might prescribe medication for your child.
