Equipping school staff with mandatory suicide prevention training

Erika's Lighthouse is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about mental health, reducing stigma, and preventing suicide. Schools in Maine can leverage free Erika's Lighthouse resources, including K-12 classroom mental health programs and staff suicide prevention training, to fulfill state mental health instruction and training mandates.

State Requirements / Best Practice

Maine requires mental health instruction to be integrated into all K-12 health education across the state. Additionally, all school personnel in each school administrative unit must complete 1 to 2 hours of Suicide Prevention Awareness Education training every five years.
