Integrating essential mental health instruction into school curricula

Erika's Lighthouse is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about mental health, reducing stigma, and preventing suicide. Schools in Maryland can leverage free Erika's Lighthouse resources, including standard classroom programs, educator training materials, and empowerment tools, to fulfill state youth suicide prevention mandates and support student mental well-being.

State Requirements / Best Practice

Maryland's Chapter 246 requires public high schools to provide training for coaches to recognize indicators of mental illness, behavioral distress, and youth suicide in students. Additionally, state mandates expand classroom instruction on suicide prevention to address co-occurring conditions and gambling addiction.
