Essential Youth Suicide Awareness and Prevention Frameworks for Schools

Erika's Lighthouse is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about mental health, reducing stigma, and preventing suicide. Schools in Ohio can leverage free Erika's Lighthouse resources, including evidence-based classroom programs and supplementary materials, to fulfill state suicide awareness and prevention mandates under the SAVE Students Act.

State Requirements / Best Practice

Ohio's HB 123, also known as the SAVE Students Act, requires school districts to provide annual evidence-based instruction for students in grades 6 through 12. Under this law, districts must include at least one hour of instruction each school year covering suicide awareness and prevention, safety training and violence prevention, and social inclusion.
