Our Guiding Beliefs

The principles behind our purpose.

Erika’s Lighthouse works exclusively in schools because we believe they’re the heart of every community. By supporting them with positive programs built on our core philosophies, we empower staff, students, and families with skills and knowledge that extend far beyond school walls.

Our Core Philosophies

Depression Education is Suicide Prevention

Upstream programs help build good mental health skills and identify mental distress and depression before suicidal thoughts occur.

Free, Equitable, and Customizable

No-cost programs reduce barriers to accessing impactful programs. Recognizing educators know their students best, and empowering them to customize resources, ensures young people are being seen and heard.

Impact Every Student

Programs should impact every student in a school. Universal, tier-1 programs, teach important mental health literacy and coping skills that can reduce mental distress and empower students.

Evidence-Informed

Programs supported by data are the key to ensuring school communities are taking effective, meaningful action around youth mental health.

Student-Centered

Student voices are powerful. Young people who can see and hear from people like them helps reduce stigma and empowers them to take charge of their mental health.

Educate the Educator

School communities should be empowered around mental health at every level. Building the capacity of educators to further vital conversations transforms both educators and students alike.
